| Where have all the flights gone? / added
13th May 2008 |
| Many of our clients are enquiring where all the
last minute flight availability has gone: quite simply, the number of
flights from the UK to the Canaries has been heavily cut this summer
(for example from Gatwick to Gran Canaria on Mondays there are now just 3 charter
flights operating this summer where as in previous years there has
usually been 6 - 8!). Most UK airports have had flight cuts as the big
operators/charter airlines have slashed the number of services to boost
plane loads and cut out loss making last minute deals: this is certainly
happening as flights are quickly selling out and flight prices are
rising as they fill so don't delay: ensure your place in the sun by
booking early.

| Extra Accommodation Availability / added 23
April 2008 |
| We've added a further accommodation supplier to our
accommodation only search results meaning we're now able to offer you a
greater choice of accommodation availability and prices for our featured
hotels and resorts! We'll get this extra capacity filtered and sorted
into our main search results shortly (and of course offer online booking
too) but for the meantime you'll find any extra availability listed in
the left hand menu panel: just give us a quick call to book it!
|
| Spring Sale / added 16 March 2008 |
| Make a new accommodation reservation online for
arrival in April, May or June and you can save up to 10% on dozens of
our featured accommodations! Look for the 'Special Offer Rate' icon in
your search results and in discounted properties you'll see our usual
rate 'crossed through' and then our reduced rate! Don't delay though -
rates will be back to normal after the 25th March and the offer only
applies to new accommodation only bookings made online.
|
| March-ing Forward / added 01 March 2008 |
| Spring's almost here and if you left it late to
book a last minute holiday for this March you might be disappointed:
for dates before the Easter weekend virtually all of our featured Gran Canaria
self-catering stock (and anything that is half-way decent in the right
areas of Playa del Ingles) has already sold out meaning most of what is
left are hotels: not always great value if you happen to be travelling
on your own. Please use our online search to find availability but
keep in mind Gran Canaria accommodation (especially at the cheaper end
of the market) really is very thin on the ground now: if you still can't
find anything to meet your needs give us a call and we'll dig around and
see if we can find anything suitable for you.

| Maspalomas Carnival 2008 /
added 30 November 2007 |
| If you've not already secured your plaice for this
popular event you'd better put your skates on & start booking now, or you
could find yourself like a fish out of water! This years theme is
decidedly fishy, taking in 'Neptune' (that's the God of the Seas
Neptune, not the Hotel Neptuno next to the Yumbo centre!) and the myths
of the sea. The Carnival runs from 7th to the 17th February 2008 with
the main events taking place over the weekend of 15-17th February 2008.
More info can be found at the official
Maspalomas
Carnaval website.

| Government to relax cabin baggage restrictions /
added 15 November 2007 |
| You may of heard that the UK Government intends to
relax the rules regarding 'carry on'/cabin baggage from the 7th January
2008, but don't get excited just yet. Each airport has to individually
apply for permission from the Government to allow passengers to carry
more than the currently permitted one 'carry on'/cabin bag per person:
your airport may not have been approved by the 7th January 2008 and it
may take some weeks or even months before it is. Please check the
official website for your airport before travel for further details.
Clients departing though all UK airports before the 7th January 2008
will still only be permitted to carry one bag only, and rules on both
permitted bag sizes and liquids remain in place both before and after
this date.

| easyJet's proposed acquisition of GB Airways /
added 09 November 2007 |
| Many of you will be aware that easyJet has proposed
the take over of GB Airways, the British Airways franchise operator that
flies many British Airways routes to the Mediterranean including the
popular British Airways flights from Gatwick to Gran Canaria and
Tenerife. GB Airways will continue to fly as British Airways
(including a full BA in-flight service, i.e. with complimentary
meals/snacks and bar service) up until the 29th March 2008, and will
then operate as easyJet from 30th March 2008. Throb
will continue to offer reservations as requested on the GB Airways
services where travel is completed by the 29th March 2008 (the end of
the full BA service). We are aware that easyJet intend to retain the
original flight timetable beyond this date that is currently being sold
and marketed as British Airways flights but which will then be
transferred to the easyJet service. As full details relating to the
level of service being offered are still unavailable, and as we are
aware that some clients will be disappointed to be originally booked on
a British Airways service which is then transferred to a low cost
service, we have decided to suspend sales on the affected flights where
travel takes place on or after the 30th March 2008 until further information is available.
Although it is a shame to lose the only UK-Gran
Canaria 'full service' scheduled route, we do however welcome easyJet's entry to the
Canaries and hope they manage to maintain and perhaps increase the
number of flights operated to Gran Canaria (both from Gatwick and its
other UK hub airports), bringing you the client more choice and lower
fares. |
