Your first glimpse of this dramatic island may well be the dominating presence of Mount Teide, Spain's highest peak, the worlds
third largest volcano and, even in the mild climate for which the Canary Islands are known for, can be cold enough for it to be snow capped during the winter months.
Teide spreads its influence across the island, effectively dividing it into two zones. In the hot, dry
and barren south is Playa de las Americas - a brash and lively resort popular with young & lively (mostly hetero) fun and sun seekers and shell suit clad families.
To the north, and set amongst banana plantations, fabulous lush tropical vegetation and dizzying mountain scenery is the more sophisticated and quainter resort town of Puerto de la Cruz, which has been attracting more discerning British holidaymakers for
well over a century. Besides some great beaches (it should
be noted that Tenerife does suffer from the 'miniature
continent' effect - it can be cloudy in the north when it's
sunny in the south - especially in the winter season), Tenerife
offers those who want more than sunbathing some great opportunities:
history, sightseeing, walking, mountain cycling and so many
more activities are readily available in this great
destination.
Whilst the gay scene is not as frantic as in neighbouring Gran Canaria, with a handful of bars, clubs and beaches catering as much for the locals as the visitors,
you'll (in our experience) always be made more than welcome. Come and try it for
yourself! AND NOW IN
PLAYA DE LAS AMERICAS
From Summer 2006 we're pleased to introduce the
Playaflor Chill-Out resort to our Tenerife selection. Slap bang
in the centre of Playa de las Americas, the Playaflor is a
'straight-friendly' complex aiming to be the first choice for
gay guys and gals on Tenerife's hot southern coast, providing a
relaxed and friendly atmosphere in a stylish, centrally located
accommodation.
SEASON: All Year
FLIGHT DAYS: FRIDAY, Tuesday, Sunday
The resort we offer: Our main Tenerife resort is
PUERTO DE LA CRUZ, which is on Tenerife's lush
northern coast. Puerto de la Cruz is a historic town and
still has a good deal of charm and, as there is far more
to see and do in the north of the island than the south,
leaves you well positioned for exploring the rest of the
island. Most UK flights operate to Tenerife South airport which is approx 100kms
away - resort transfers
are not included in 'flight inclusive' quotations: private
transfers or taxis cost approx £75 fare each way and we
find most clients opt to spend this money on car rental
instead: a car for a week, collect & return to the
airport, starts at about £100. Buses are also available,
and the fare is a very reasonable 8 Euros per person
each way - during the summer months there are usually no direct
flights from any UK airport to Tenerife North airport. Puerto de la Cruz has
6 gay/gay friendly bars (which are sometimes only busy
at the weekends), and plenty
of good restaurants. The main gay nudist beach at Playa
de los Patos is about
a 40 minute walk from Puerto de la Cruz (another reason
most people opt for car hire!) and access to the beach
is via a moderately difficult cliff path and often over
rocks which may be unsuitable for people with walking difficulties.
We now include the Playaflor in PLAYA DE LAS AMERICAS a
resort that hasn't been particularly noted for its gay nightlife
- there are currently several gay/gay friendly bars/discos
(mostly located in the Salytien shopping center - you'll
find PuntoZero, Cellar, Geminis, Chaplins and GaySha) taking you from early evening
through to the small hours of the morning: the scene is not as
tourist led as Gran Canaria, so the bars can be quiet during the
week. Being on the south coast means a higher chance of
good weather, however: if you're not lounging by the pool at the
Playaflor you can find a small, pebbly nude beach at nearby Los Cristianos (now unofficial - the signs say no nude sunbathing but
plenty of people ignore them) with cruising on the cliff ledges,
and the larger, sandy nudist beach at El Medano some 15kms from
Playa de las Americas (access by car or a *slow* bus trip is
also possible).

PLAYA DE LAS AMERICAS / gay friendly
New from Summer 2006 we're pleased to include our first property in
Playa de las Americas on Tenerife's hot southern coast: the Playaflor
Chill-Out Resort.
Located in the heart Las Americas, just across from the
promenade, the Playaflor is the first complex in this resort to go
gay: more 'straight-friendly than 'gay-friendly', and the complex
is only open to adults!
Accommodation is offered in 23 simple but stylishly decorated one bedroom 'duplex'
apartments: the complex calls them bungalows for some reason, but on
the ground floor you find a lounge and well-equipped kitchenette,
head upstairs to the bedroom and bathroom and then up a again to a
private roof terrace.
To top it off, the Playaflor has a pool and sun terrace
(nude sunbathing by the pool is now allowed or for a bit more privacy head up to your own roof-top terrace!) and a popular chill-out bar
that's open during the day and evening offering snacks and drinks
whilst it pumps out ambient beats to help you get the vibe!

PUERTO DE LA CRUZ / gay exclusive
Located on the hillside overlooking Puerto de la Cruz, and with
magnificent views out over the mountain valley and the coast, we're pleased to
present the gay exclusive Villa Maspalmeras.
Hosts Andrew and Eduardo offer accommodation in stylishly
decorated double rooms or self-catering apartments, each with
private bathroom. Surrounded by those dramatic views and lush
scenery, the Villa has a mini-gym and a relaxing clothing optional
pool and sun terrace. Smokers should note that smoking in only allowed in the
outdoor areas.
Keeping in mind the Villas elevated position, we strongly
recommend car hire: we wouldn't advise walking from the

beach unless you really want to stretch your legs, however taxis are
of course available!

TENERIFE
NOTES
* 'Flight & Accommodation' quotations do not included transfers: most other UK airports only fly to Tenerife
South which is
just over 1 hours transfer time to/from Puerto de la Cruz (a taxi fare of about
£85 each way and a bus service at about 8 Euros per person each way, making car hire the best option: rates start at about £100
for a weeks rental). If flying into Tenerife South and staying at the
Playaflor in Playa de las Americas, shared shuttle transfers can
be pre-booked for £15 return fare per person or hop in a cab and
you can expect the fare to be about 30 Euros (£22) each way. |
